Adelante Familia Joins House Of Ruth Maryland
(Baltimore, Maryland) St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore and House Of Ruth Maryland announce the transfer of Adelante Familia, a domestic violence intervention and prevention program for Latino families from St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to the House Of Ruth Maryland, effective November 1, 2010.
Sandi Timmins, Executive Director of the House Of Ruth Maryland stated, “Isolation is one tactic that abusers use to control their victims – a tactic made even easier when you’re talking about a community already isolated by linguistics and culture. By bringing Adelante Familia into the fold of the House Of Ruth Maryland, we can strengthen our ability to reach more victims in need, provide them with the services they need and get one step closer to our shared vision that, one day, every woman will be safe in her own home.”
“This move makes strategic sense for both St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore and House of Ruth Maryland,” stated John Schiavone, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore. “While we are very proud of our work in founding Adelante Familia and developing its services over the past eight years, we recognize that, for Adelante Familia to continue to develop, it will be best served by an agency whose sole focus is domestic violence intervention and prevention. We believe that Adelante Familia will continue to thrive as a program of the House Of Ruth Maryland, the leading provider of domestic violence services in this region.”
Under the House Of Ruth Maryland, current staff of Adelante Familia will be retained, and all of the current services of Adelante Familia will be continued as a part of House Of Ruth Maryland. Adelante Familia will continue to operate from its main location on Eastern Avenue in East Baltimore, as well its satellite sites in Baltimore County. The program will be known as “Adelante Familia at House Of Ruth Maryland.”
