Counseling and Outreach Assistant

The Counseling, Outreach, and Training Department is looking for an assistant to join their Baltimore office team. The Counseling, Outreach & Training Assistant provides initial intake services for the counseling program, develops and conducts outreach events aimed at educating the community about intimate partner violence, and assists the Training Director in coordinating and implementing professional trainings. This position offers a strong introduction to working in the human service, community health, or social work field, including administrative tasks that support all the programs in the Clinical Services Department and the Training Institute.

Undergraduate degree in social work, women’s studies, or human service field. Fluency in Spanish or other language preferred. Experience in community outreach, education, or organizing. Experience in a fast-paced clinical or human service setting. Some knowledge and understanding of domestic violence. Knowledge and sensitivity to issues associated with working with people from diverse backgrounds. Computer literate (MS Word, internet, email, client data base data entry). Power Point a plus. Contact Center Counselor

The Contact Center is seeking 2 part-time call center counselors to join their team. The Contact Center Counselor will provide the first, and often only, contact that many victims of domestic violence have with the House Of Ruth Maryland (HRM).  The counselor will offer information and referral, crisis intervention counseling, and technical assistance in response to telephone, e-mail, fax and HRM website inquiries.  The counselor will also work closely with other HRM programs and staff, to ensure the timely, effective and seamless provision of services to victims, families, friends, other professionals, donors and other individuals who contact HRM seeking assistance, information, advice, support, and/or referral.

BSW, BA in Psychology or related field required. Experience working on hotline or in other customer service role preferred.  Strong Crisis management and counseling skills required, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must have engaging telephone demeanor that conveys compassion.  Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds.  Demonstrated competence using computer, including MS Word, Outlook Express, client database (ETO), and Internet.  Ability to work independently. Child Care Teacher/Group Leader

The Children and Youth Services Department is looking for an assistant to join their team. The Child Care Assistant provides substitute coverage for child care staff and assists child care teachers who are conducting special projects and events.  The Child Care Assistant will assist the School-Age Child Care Teacher on a routine basis.  This position is responsible for coordination of volunteers and program activities in the new Children’s Library.

Must be 21 years of age or older.  High school diploma required, some college and/or 90-hour Early Childhood Education certificate/eligibility preferred.  Minimum 1 year experience working with children of varying ages and their parents.  Ability to work in fast-paced environment and to develop and maintain good working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds.  Outgoing, organized and creative.  Knowledgeable about the impact of domestic violence and trauma on child development and behavior and families.  Ability to manage emotionally traumatized children as part of a team.  Demonstrated competence using computer, including MS Word, email, client database (ETO), and Internet. Legal Advocate

The Legal Clinic is seeking a Legal Advocate to join their Prince George’s/ Montgomery County group. The legal advocate provides first contact to victims of domestic violence seeking protective orders, peace orders, and divorce and custody cases. The legal advocate provides legal information, referrals, safety planning and advocacy to victims of domestic violence. The advocate participates in the identification of systemic obstacles for victims of domestic violence, and assists in formulating a plan and strategies for the removal of those obstacles.

Bachelor’s degree, law degree, or equivalent advocacy experience. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability to assist and advocate on behalf of victims of domestic violence in various environments. Ability to travel and rotate among HRM offices and courthouse offices as needed. Ability to work in fast paced environment. Computer literate (MS Word, internet, e-mail). Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including clients, House of Ruth Staff, and members of the community.  Ability to work with limited supervision. Teen Educator (HRM/Americorps)

The Teen Program is seeking an Educator to join their team. The Teen Educator is a team member of the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program. The job of the Educator is to provide educational information to children, adolescents, parents, and community members about healthy and unhealthy intimate relationships. This position is part of the agency’s domestic violence prevention initiatives.

Bachelor’s Degree and one year experience working with adolescents. Experience with “creative” educational approaches, employing art, music, and/or drama. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Shelter Volunteer & Enrichment Activities CoordinatorEvenings and weekends, 40 hours per week, some holidays (hours are negotiable)

The Shelter Program is seeking a Volunteer Activities Coordinator to join their team. The Volunteer Activities Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, expanding and promoting the Shelter Volunteer Program.    The Coordinator works in consultation with the HRM Volunteer Manager and Shelter staff who are working with volunteers to ensure a positive volunteer experience in roles that further the work of the Shelter Program. 

Associate degree in Human Services field or 1-2 years project management or volunteer coordination experience. Ability to work in fast-paced environment. Outgoing, organized and creative. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Good organization, writing and verbal communication skills. Client Services Coordinator

The Client Services Department is seeking a Client Services Advocate to join their team. The Client Services advocate is primarily responsible for making contact with participants referred from the 24 hour hotline who are in need of resources and information.  Assist in maintaining client data current in ETO.   Assists program staff in providing continuous coordination of services for victims along with providing crisis intervention, safety planning, support and connections to programs for victims and their children.  This position is also responsible for contact center coverage on the 24 hour hotline.

Bachelor’s degree in human services field or five years experience providing counseling, case management, or client centered advocacy required.  Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and knowledge of local human services programs/ agencies and housing resources also required. Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills with a strong ability to relate to a diverse range of individuals including victims, children, business leaders, human service providers, and donors. Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and timelines. Clean driving record, current state driver’s license, and reliable personal transportation. Background check required. Counseling Office Assistant

The Prince George’s County Counseling and Outreach Department staff is seeking a Counseling Office Assistant to join their team. The Office Assistant works in partnership with staff and victims of domestic violence and their children who are receiving services or who call the office seeking services and/or information and referral.  Duties include assisting with office maintenance, supervising the reception area, answering phones, making referrals, handling crisis calls, maintaining community resource lists, assisting in maintenance of files and records, assisting with child care and children’s support groups, attending staff meetings, and representing the House Of Ruth Maryland at community events.

Volunteer Coordinator: Ruth’s Closet & B-More Bags

The House Of Ruth Maryland is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator for two social enterprises:  Ruth’s Closet, an upscale resale boutique and B-More Bags, a volunteer project involving the design, sewing and sales of unique fabric bags.   Both projects generate revenue to fund victim services programs. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing volunteer outreach and retention strategies, oversight and coordination of volunteers supporting these projects, organizing and implementing activities to train, support, and encourage volunteers, and assisting with special events.

BA or BS in a liberal arts or business curriculum required and one year of office experience preferred.  Must have excellent organizational and communication skills, be outgoing, organized, and creative.  Requires the ability to develop good working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.  Some evening and weekend hours required.  Must be computer proficient, able to maintain confidentiality and work independently, quickly, and accurately in a fast-paced environment.  Strong written and oral communication skills required. Work Experience Coordinator & Donations Liaison

The House Of Ruth Maryland is seeking a Work Experience Coordinator & Donations Liaison for Ruth’s Closet, an upscale resale boutique operating as a social enterprise.  Revenue generated by Ruth’s Closet will fund victim services programs. The individual in this position will be involved in research and planning to develop a work experience program at Ruth’s Closet for HRM clients.  The position is also responsible for liaison between the HRM donation receiving and processing center, Ruth’s Closet, the shelter boutique and other donation distribution targets.

Group Facilitator Assistant

The Counseling Department is seeking a Group Facilitator Assistant to join their staff. The Group Facilitator Assistant provides individual intake and group counseling to female victims and perpetrators of domestic violence under the supervision of qualified staff. The candidate will provide ongoing data entry in order to maintain client files and be responsible for comprehensive documentation of all client interactions.  This position also encompasses performing daily administrative tasks that support client treatment and program management.

Undergraduate degree in human service field. Some knowledge and understanding of domestic violence from a psychological, social and political perspective. Knowledge and sensitivity to issues of working with people from diverse backgrounds. Computer literate (MS Word, internet, e-mail), data entry. Must be able to work at least one evening a week until 7 PM. Experience in clinical or human service setting. Second language a plus. Background check required.
