Bilingual Client Services Coordinator

The Bilingual Client Services Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing continuous coordination of culturally specific services for domestic violence victims placed in temporary shelter through the Baltimore City Police Lethality Project.  Additionally, the Service Coordinator provides culturally specific services for Latino immigrant victims seeking services with Adelante Familia at the HRM.  This position is responsible for welcoming and orienting new residents to the program, providing crisis intervention and safety planning, developing a culturally sensitive intervention strategy, support system, and connection to programs.  Offsite visits are part of the job.  This position is also responsible for providing rotating coverage on the 24 hour Spanish language hotline.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in human services field or five years experience providing counseling, case management, or client centered advocacy. 
  • At least one year of experience in direct service provision with the Latino immigrant community.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence. 
  • Knowledge of local human services programs/ agencies and housing resources.
  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills with a strong ability to relate to a diverse range of individuals including victims, children, donors, business leaders, human service providers, and donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and timelines.
  • Clean driving record, current state driver’s license, and reliable personal transportation.
  • Must pass Criminal Background Check.

Child Care Teacher – Infant and Toddler

The toddler teacher is responsible for the day-to-day care of toddlers in the classroom.  They will plan creative, educational, fun activities for them as well as addresses their basic needs. The teacher will clean, organize, and track inventory of toddler materials and environment. The teacher will be responsible for taking attendance and writing daily reports to the parents. The teacher will provide care for children ages 0-5 in the evenings when there are adult shelter activities. Minimum hourly rate is $9.73 for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 20 years or older
  • High school diploma or GED required, some college preferred
  • 90 hour Early Childhood Education Certificate and 45 hour Infant/Toddler Certificate or 90 hour Infant/Toddler Certificate
  • At least one (1) year experience working with infants and toddlers
  • Knowledgeable about the impact of domestic violence and trauma on child development, behavior, and on their families.

Child Care Teacher - School Age

The School Age Group Leader is responsible for the day-to-day activities in the school age group room.  Supervises school age children and plans and delivers creative, educational and fun activities in the afternoon and evening.

Qualifications:  

  • Must be 20 years old or older. 
  • High school diploma or GED required, some college preferred. 
  • One (1) year experience working with the school age population. 
  • Knowledgeable about the impact of domestic violence and trauma on child development, behavior and on their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage emotionally traumatized children as part of a team. 
  • Demonstrates competence with computer systems including MS Word, agency email and client/outcome data base systems.

Contact Center Counselor (Saturdays Only)

The Contact Center Counselor is a 8 hour per week Saturday position that provides the first (and often only) contact that many victims and others have with The House Of Ruth Maryland. The Counselor offers customer service, information and referral, crisis intervention counseling, and technical assistance in response to telephone, e-mail, fax, and HRM website inquiries.  The Contact Center Counselor is primarily responsible for providing Line One coverage and back up coverage to the 24/7 crisis hotline and as such is an expert in the dynamics of domestic violence and the House Of Ruth Maryland’s philosophy, programs, and services.   The Counselor is a creative, energetic problem solver who exercises initiative to help callers and is a skilled professional who has excellent crisis intervention skills including empathy, compassion, listening, patience, and the ability to assess each victim’s situation relative to lethality, assist them in making a safety plan and engage them in appropriate services. The Counselor is responsible for developing an excellent working relationship with other HRM program and its staff, to ensure the timely, effective and seamless provision of services and must have the maturity and skills to work with people from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds in many different capacities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Shares responsibility with other Contact Center Counselors for live response to calls during designated shifts.  This position is responsible for the Saturday shift 9am– 5pm, with some flexibility. 
  • Provides crisis intervention, empathy and immediate safety planning to victims at risk of serious injury from domestic violence. 
  • Provides compassion, support, patience and information and referral to all victims, families, friends, professionals, donors and other individual callers during designated shifts.
  •  Provides timely and accurate data entry related to each call. When necessary, will enter documentation of calls that were responded to by volunteers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to assist Weinberg staff, including but not limited to occasional face to face crisis counseling for shelter residents, and front office backup.
  • Maintains and refreshes the resource directory to ensure that it is accurate and up to date.
  • Responds to requests received through the HRM WEB site, Info Line, and My Space page.
  • Participates in Contact Center Team meetings and makes recommendations concerning individual participant’s eligibility for financial assistance and expected termination date from the program.
  • Provides relief and back-up coverage in emergency and urgent situations if required.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Overnight Contact Center Counselor

The Contact Center Counselor is a 32 hour per week awake and alert overnight position that provides the first (and often only) contact that many victims and others have with The House Of Ruth Maryland. The Counselor offers customer service, information and referral, crisis intervention counseling, and technical assistance in response to telephone, e-mail, fax, and HRM website inquiries.  The Contact Center Counselor is primarily responsible for providing Line One coverage and back up coverage to the 24/7 crisis hotline and as such is an expert in the dynamics of domestic violence and the House Of Ruth Maryland’s philosophy, programs, and services.   The Counselor is a creative, energetic problem solver who exercises initiative to help callers and is a skilled professional who has excellent crisis intervention skills including empathy, compassion, listening, patience, and the ability to assess each victim’s situation relative to lethality, assist them in making a safety plan and engage them in appropriate services.   • Provides timely and accurate data entry related to each call. When necessary, will enter documentation of calls that were responded to by volunteers.
  • Assists with data entry related to Police Lethality Program, performs all intakes related to Police Lethality Program and coordinates efforts with Police Lethality Program staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to assist Weinberg staff, including but not limited to occasional face to face crisis counseling for shelter residents, and front office backup.

Paralegal

The paralegal provides high quality administrative and clerical support to attorneys in protective and peace orders and domestic cases throughout the Clinic. Performs clerical and administrative duties as directed by the Director of the Legal Clinic. The paralegal drafts correspondence and legal documents on behalf of attorneys. The paralegal performs legal research and writing for the attorneys and provides legal information, referrals, safety planning and advocacy to victims of domestic violence. The paralegal participates in the identification of systemic obstacles for victims of domestic violence, and assists in formulating a plan and strategies for the removal of those obstacles.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of paralegal practices and procedures by completing tasks and performing legal research ad writing assigned correctly and on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of domestic violence and domestic law by conducting and attending trainings.
  • Ability to meet intake goals as set by the Clinic Director.
  • Ability to formulate, plan and organize multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of victims of domestic violence in various environments.
  • Ability to master information technology by accurately inputting and retrieving information from the computer for data entry, word processing, e-mailing, and other functions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to complete requirements of all grants, including written reports in a timely manner.
  • Ability to meet outreach goals as set by the Clinic Director.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a fast paced environment by meeting goals and objectives as set by the Clinic Director.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned by the Clinic Director.

Resident Advocate

The Resident Assistant is responsible for providing non-therapeutic support to women and children living in shelter.  The Resident Assistant assists with program operations including housekeeping, food service, Hotline coverage, and monitoring the facility for safety and security. 

Qualifications: 

High School Diploma or GED required.  One year experience working in a residential facility preferred.  Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to resolve conflict in a professional manner.  Proficiency in MS Word and database programs.   Demonstrated skill in working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Essential duties:

  • Monitors building and security alarms.
  • Responds to and manages emergencies and immediate crisis, involving supervisory staff as necessary.
  • Completes appropriate portions of intake process, including paperwork, orientation of resident to the facility, and distribution of essential supplies.
  • Prepares vacant rooms for new residents as needed or in the absence of Housekeeping staff.
  • Maintains clear communication between shifts by documenting pertinent information and reviewing Shelter Log.
  • Provides Hotline Coverage when necessary.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution among clients.  Demonstrates positive conflict management and conflict resolution behavior.  Reinforces life skills and behaviors that support a healthy lifestyle and effective functioning in a group living situation.
  • Provides comfort to residents in crisis in the absence of counseling and casework staff.
  • Provides resident access to prescribed or authorized medication

Senior Client Services Coordinator

The Senior Client Services Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the processes that assign and monitor client cases and progress in the program and among departments. This position works very closely with the Client Services Program Manager and the Contact Center Manager to ensure that cases are assigned and followed through on in a timely fashion and that the continuity and seamless delivery of services to the client is the top priority.  Additionally, the Senior Services Coordinator is responsible for coordination of services for victims seeking services with the HRM, including welcoming and orienting new participants to the program, providing crisis intervention and safety planning, developing an intervention strategy, support system, and connection to programs.  Offsite visits are part of the job.  This position is also responsible for contact center coverage on the 24 hour hotline.  The Senior Services Coordinator is responsible for developing an excellent working relationship with other HRM program and its staff, as well as external stakeholders, to ensure the timely, effective and seamless provision of services and must have the maturity and skills to work with people from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds in many different capacities.
